Farm migrations In a farm migration, all your servers in a legacy infrastructure is migrated to a cloud platform of your
choice. Such a migration requires a deep understanding of both source and destination infrastructure. Most hosts have a minimum of 3 different control panels and 3 different operating systems. Target cloud systems can be either hosted or private, which presents a diverse combination of technologies and migration considerations. Correctly estimating the source and destination capabilities is a critical step in the migration process, and smoothly executing this comes only with experience and focused training. Bobcares has experience in doing both App and Farm migrations to Amazon S3/EC2. In App migrations, the most common requirements were to replace the current backup system with AWS S3 backup. The challenges involved creating custom scripts to configure the backup process to transfer backup data in segment sizes acceptable by AWS S3. On an average such tasks take about 3 hours to complete, and would cost $90.
In Farm migrations, the requirements are mostly about setting up individual server instances in AWS EC2, configuring networking and migrating the domains to the new instance during a scheduled time. Such tasks take about 8-12 hours to complete (for 2-3 servers) and on average costs maximum $360.
In App migrations to Rackspace Cloudfiles, the requirements mainly involved replacing the current legacy backup systems with CloudFiles based backup. The challenge was in integrating the CloudFiles systems with the current backup procedures. The task on an average take 2 hours, and the administration charge will be $60.
