These days, almost all business communications happen over email. If the mail server goes down for any reason, all mails in that server will bounce, causing significant business disruption.

For shared hosting providers, this is a major issue, as a single server hosts hundreds of businesses, and a service failure can affect all of them. During such a downtime, hosting providers are usually flooded with support requests to recover lost emails.

The day my Postfix/SASL server refused to deliver mail

I encountered this issue one Saturday afternoon, on which I happened to be working. Being a Saturday, I expected a relatively quiet day at the office. This was why, I was initially surprised when our monitoring software reported that there were more than 3500 mails present in one of our servers (say, vm.domain.com) mail queue. Within half an hour, the count had increased to approximately 5000 mails. There goes my quiet Saturday. Sigh.

Before proceeding, I would like to point out that all our servers run on CentOS and use Postfix.

cPanel mailing list – Howto

A mailing list is actually a list of mail addresses, to which the same information/content is sent. Suppose you have to send an announcement to all users of a particular service, say customers who use your enterprise backup solution, all you need to do is to send it to a mailing list comprising of all such user’s mail ID’s.

Adding a mailing list in cPanel is a fairly easy task. Let us see how this can be done easily, from within the cPanel account :
