by | Oct 24, 2019

A search for a cost-effective cPanel alternative often ends in CentOS Web Panel.

The free control panel CWP offers cPanel equivalent options like adding domains, migration tools, backup tools, etc. However, the exact steps differ slightly.

At Bobcares, we often get requests from our customers to add domains in Centos Web Panel as part of our Server Management Services

Today, we’ll see how our Support Engineers add domains in Centos Web Panel and fix related errors.

How we add a domain in Centos Web Panel

As we already saw, the Centos Web Panel is a free web hosting control panel. It offers easy management of multiple domains in both Dedicated and VPS servers.

Now, let’s see how our Support Engineers add a domain in Centos Web Panel.

1. Initially, we log into your CentOS Web panel as an administrative user

2. Then, we click on the Domains section in the left navigation >> click Add Domain

3. Next, we enter the domain name, username and the path where you want to have the files and click Create button.

That’s all. We completed the creation of the new domain.

How we fixed error while creating a domain in Centos Web Panel

From our experience in managing servers, we’ve seen customers often facing problems while creating a domain in CWP.

Now let’s see how our Support Engineers fixed the top errors.

1. Invalid characters

Recently, one of our customers had an error while adding a domain in Centos Web Panel. When he tried to add a domain, he got an error like,

"/index.php?module=add_domain" using domain name Domain.com user is instant and path is /public_html

The error is "Warning! : No special characters are allowed!".

On checking, our Support Engineers found an invalid character in his domain while adding the domain. So, we removed the character and added the domain on behalf of the customer.

For example, he was tried to add Domain.com. Here, Centos Web Panel considered ‘D’ as a special character.

Therefore, we added the domain as domain.com and solved the error.

2. Manual update

Similarly, another customer was trying to add some domains through the user panel with international TLDs. For example, .hu or .eu or add a domain that has a dash (-) in the domain name like test-domain.hu. But he either got an error. The blue “Add new domain” button immediately disappeared when he tried to add a domain with the .hu.

The error was: "Error..! Incorrect format, remember that you can not have special characters and less than 3 characters..!"

So, our Support Engineers manually updated the CWP using the command:

sh /scripts/update_cwp

Then, we could add the domain without any error.
