Do you need a solution on how to disable Imunify360 cPanel?

Customers often need to disable Imunify360 in cPanel due to specific website requirements. It involves stopping the service or excluding certain domains from Imunify, etc.

At Bobcares, we often receive requests on the best way to disable it as part of our Server Management Services.

Today, let’s have a deep discussion on this topic and see how our Support Engineers disable Imunify360.

Why do we Disable Imunify360?

Imunify360, a security solution for Linux web servers provide complete protection against any kind of malicious attack.

Moreover, it uses herd immunity and the six-layer approach to provide the highest level of security from all sorts of malicious attacks.

These include DDOS attacks, Mod Security protection, malware scanning, website reputation management, and a sophisticated firewall.

Though it provides better security, customers often need to disable Imunify360 due to some specific problems on their websites.

These include slow loading websites, frequent HTTP 500 errors and so on.

How to disable Imunify360 cPanel?

Recently, one of our customers approached us to disable Imunify360 in cPanel.

Our Support Engineers checked the problem in detail. Imunify360 intrusion detection is mainly based on Mod Security rules.

And, Mod Security is an application firewall on the server-side. Imunify360 has integrated mod security ‘rules’ that helps protect websites from all sorts of attacks.

Since Imunify360 is server-side software, we can stop it for all the domains using certain commands.

For CentOS6/CloudLinux6, we use the command,

service imunify360 stop

Similarly, for all the other operating systems, we use the below command:

systemctl stop imunify360

However, this stops the entire service. This means none of the domains will get the protection of Imunify360.

Steps to turn off ModSecurity in cPanel

To do a selective disabling on Imunify360 on certain domains, we disable ModSecurity for such domains.

The command to disable Imunify360 for a specific domain via Imunify360 cli is

imunify360-agent whitelist domain add yourdomain.net

But, in the case of cPanel servers, we can turn off the Modsecurity option for the domains.

Sometimes, Imunify360 blocks certain IP addresses due to failed logins as part of enhancing security.

So, turning the Mod Security OFF first and then turning it ON will resolve this problem.

So, to turn off ModSecurity for specified domains, we recommend following the below steps.

  1. Firstly, log in to the cPanel control panel.
  2. Then, click the ModSecurity icon under the Security section in cPanel.
  3. After that, besides the domain name, we can toggle it to the OFF position.
