Wondering how to resolve ispconfig error 403 forbidden, We can help you in fixing it!

ISPConfig is an Open Source Hosting Control Panel for Linux servers.

The 403 Forbidden error is a common issue faced by ISPConfig Hosting Control Panel users while attempting to login to Admin Pages.

As part of our Server Management Services, we assist our customers with several ispconfig queries.

Today, let’s discuss how our Support Engineers fix this error easily for our customers.

Why does ispconfig: 403 forbidden error occur?

Before discussing how to fix the error, let’s have a look at the error.

Our ispconfig users often report to us that they are facing a forbidden error while loading the sites or accessing the ispconfig interface.

To be more specific, the 403 Forbidden error means that we do not have access to this page and/or directory.

The following is the exact error received while loading the sites:

(13)Permission denied: access to / denied

or

Forbidden
You don't have permission to access / on this server.

And, this error occurs when the webserver is not able to access the requested file/folder because of a wrong/insufficient permissions error.

Here, the issue is due to the missing of webserver users in the ispconfig group.

How do we fix this 403 forbidden error?

Now, let’s have a look at how our Support Engineers fix this forbidden error.

We can easily fix this error by adding the webserver user to the ispconfig group file.

Before that, we need to make sure that the apache user can access the website root directory and the files within it. If it is an apache webserver the users are usually www-data or apache.

After that, we need to cross-check the ispconfig group /etc/group file.

Then make sure that the user is added to this group as shown below:

ispconfig:x:5002:apache

Finally, refresh the page after adding the apache user to the ispconfig group and the website will load.
