Moving on, let’s find out how to enable an SSL certificate in Virtualmin.
How to enable SSL in Virtualmin
If you are looking for a way to add an SSL certificate to a Virtual server. You have come to the right place. Today, our Support Engineers will demonstrate how to do this seemingly easy task without running into any complications.
Before we start, make sure that you have logged into Virtualmin.
- First, choose the domain that you want to add the SSL certificate.
- Then, select Edit Virtual Server.
- After that, select Enabled features.
- Then, check the SSL website enabled? checkbox.
- After that, select Save Virtual Server.
When you have reached this stage, you have created a self-signed certificate. In other words, your communications are secure. However, your users will be given a security warning each time they access the site since the certificate was not generated by a certificate authority.
Our Support Engineers recommend getting a commercial certificate to avoid this from happening.
How to get a commercial certificate?
- First, select Server Configuration.
- Then, select Manage SSL Certification.
- After that, select Signing Request.
- Next, enter the domain name and email address in the Server Name and Email Address field respectively.
- Then, enter your organization or business name in the Organisation field.
- After that, select Generate CSR Now.
- Take the generated CSR to any company that creates SSL certificates and have one made for you.
How to enable commercial SSL in Virtualmin?
- Select New Certificate.
- Then, copy and paste the SSL Certificate contents into the Signed SSL Certificate field.
- Remember to keep the Matching private key offered by Virtualmin.
- After that, click Install.
In case you received an Intermediate Certificate or a CA Bundle, you can install it via the CA Certificate tab.
