Let’s take a closer look at how the WordPress Page Duplicator works.

WordPress Page Duplicator

Consider a sales page with a lot of content that we can reuse, or an older article that can be expanded to become a new article. The contents of the post or page could now be manually copied and pasted into a new draught. However, the featured image, post settings, SEO settings, and other metadata are not copied. The WordPress page duplicator allows us to duplicate a post or page in its entirety, including all of its settings and content.

The Semi-Manual Way to Duplicate a Page or Post in WordPress

If we only have one post to duplicate, this method may be faster because it eliminates the need to install a plugin. If we have a lot of posts to duplicate, we’d recommend skipping this section and instead using a plugin, which will be much faster and more accurate.

Here’s how to duplicate a single post or page for those of us who only need it once.

  1. Firstly, go to the existing post or page and open it.
  2. By clicking outside a block on the post or selecting the Document tab in the editing panel to the right of the screen, we can make sure we don’t have any individual blocks selected. When we select a block, WordPress only copies the contents of that block, not the entire document.
  3. Then, at the top right of the editing screen, click the ellipsis.
  4. Then a menu will appear.
  5. A Copy All Content option can be found near the bottom of this menu. Then we’ll get a message that our content has been copied if we click on it.
  6. Create a new post now.
  7. Then, give the article a title. Then, on the editing screen, click in the first empty block that has been created.
  8. The contents of the previous post will now be incorporated into the new one.
  9. Finally, we can edit that post to distinguish it from the previous one.

This is something we strongly advise because having blog posts that are exact duplicates of each other on the site is pointless. Not only will it confuse visitors, but it’s also bad for SEO.

Duplicate a post or page in WordPress

  • Firstly, we must install and activate the Duplicate Post plugin.
  • Then, we must navigate to the Posts » All Posts page.
  • Whether we’re working with pages or posts, the Duplicate Post plugin automatically adds three links below each title:
    1. Clone : Duplicates the WordPress page or post without bringing up the cloned content’s editor.
    2. New Draft : Duplicates the content and launches the editor, allowing us to get to work right away.
    3. Rewrite & Republish: The best option for content updates. It creates a copy of the live version of the content on which we can make changes. We can republish to the original URL to overwrite the existing content with a single click once we’re done with the edits.
  • Any of these links will generate a copy of the page with minor differences.

This is where the plugin really shines if we want to use it for other scenarios like website redesign, landing page copying, and so on.

Duplicate Post Plugin Settings Customization

The duplicate post plugin is ready to use right away and supports both posts and pages. We can also customise the plugin to add support for custom post types, limit user roles, and choose what to duplicate.

Take a look at all of these options.

  1. Firstly, navigate to the Settings » Duplicate Post page and configure the plugin settings.
  2. There are three tabs on the settings page. The first tab allows us to specify what we want to duplicate.
  3. Most websites should be fine with the default settings. We can, however, check the items we want to copy and uncheck the items we don’t want copied.
  4. Then we’ll go to the permissions tab.
  5. The plugin allows administrator and editor user roles to duplicate posts by default.
  6. It also allows for the creation of duplicate posts for post types such as posts and pages.
  7. If the website employs custom post types, those post types will appear here. We have the option of enabling the duplicate post feature for those post types as well.
  8. Finally, go to the Display tab and select where we want the clone post links to appear. The plugin displays them by default in the post list, edit screen, and admin bar.
  9. Don’t forget to save the changes by clicking the Save Changes button.
