When using cPanel and WHM, the ability to use the terminal feature enables customers to use an in-browser terminal program for direct command-line access. At Bobcares, with our cPanel & WHM Support Services, we can handle your cPanel terminal feature issues.
Terminal Feature In cPanel
Within a cPanel & WHM session, the ability of the Terminal feature enables us to access an in-browser terminal application for direct command-line access. The interface will appear only when the user has access to the shell and the SSH Access & Terminal feature in WHM’s Feature Manager is enabled by the hosting company. Some of the benefits include:
- Some operations can be accomplished using a Terminal much more quickly than through graphical programs and menus.
- Access to a large number of other commands and scripts.
- If the cPanel user has shell access enabled, then it will automatically enable the Terminal and SSH Access features.
- A single command can be used to complete the common terminal task of installing a program.
How To Enable Terminal Feature In cPanel?
The process involves three steps, namely:
- Firstly, enable shell access.
- Then enable the ‘Terminal’ option.
- Finally, access the terminal via the cPanel account.
Enable Shell Access
We can execute the following steps to enable shell access:
- Firstly launch WHM using the logins.
- Then go to Home.

- Finally, enable Shell Access
Enable Terminal Feature
The below steps help us to enable the Terminal feature.
- Firstly, WHM login.
- Then go to “Account Functions”
- Select the “Manage Shell Access” option.
- Also by updating the account and choosing the option shell access, we can enable the same.
- By default, the search menu option for the cPanel user is set to disabled shell; we can modify it to normal shell or jailed shell.
Accessing Terminal Feature
We can access the Terminal feature through the cPanel account.
- Firstly, log in to the cPanel account.
- Then find can the option “Terminal” from the “ADVANCED” menu.
- Now click the option to open the Terminal.
- When we first visit the terminal, a screen with a cautionary message will show up.
- Click on the Proceed button.
- Finally, we can access the server account’s command line through this interface. Now that we can use CLI to administer the account.
We can no longer access the interface’s terminal window when we end a session in the Terminal interface. Then we have to click Reconnect to launch another session.
Direct command-line access within a cPanel & WHM session is provided by the new in-browser terminal application for cPanel & WHM. Users of WHM can get to this function by going to WHM >> Home >> Server Configuration >> Terminal. Users of cPanel can get to this function by going to cPanel >> Home >> Advanced >> Terminal.
