Error yum install failed vestacp

 
Installing Vestacp in clear VPS with CentOS 7 server will sometimes fails with yum error.

For example, installing Vestacp with the command below:

bash vst-install.sh –nginx yes –apache yes –phpfpm no –named yes –remi yes –vsftpd yes –proftpd no –iptables yes –fail2ban yes –quota no –exim yes –dovecot yes –spamassassin yes –clamav yes –mysql yes –postgresql no –hostname abc –email xyz@gmail.com –password 456test

The exact error looks like the following:

failure: repodata/repomd.xml from C7.7.1908-base: [Errno 256] No more mirrors to try.
http://vault.centos.org/7.7.1908/os/x86 … repomd.xml: [Errno 14] HTTP Error 404 – Not Found
Error: yum install failed

Here the Yum failure might be due to the failure of any of the configured repositories or if there is no enough cached data for yum to continue.

Now let’s see few ways to fix this is yum failure issue:

1. We can contact the upstream for the repository and get them to fix the problem.

2. For pointing to a working upstream we can reconfigure the baseurl/etc. for the repository. This is very useful if we are using a newer
distribution release that is supported by the repository.

3. We can temporarly disable the repository by running the following command:

yum –disablerepo=C7.7.1908-base …

4. We can also disable the repository  permanantly by running the following command:

yum-config-manager –disable C7.7.1908-base
or
subscription-manager repos –disable=C7.7.1908-base

So, Yum won’t use the repository by default. That is, Yum will then just ignore the repository until we permanently enable it again.

Also for temporary usage, we can use –enablerepo command.

5. We can skip the failing repository if it is not available.

yum-config-manager –save –setopt=C7.7.1908-base.skip_if_unavailable=true
