Install PostgreSQL 10.x on CentOS 7 with Plesk with this alternative solution by our in-house experts.

At Bobcares, we offer solutions for every query, big and small, as a part of our Server Management Service.

Let’s take a look at how our Support Team recently helped out a customer installing PostgreSQL 10.x on CentOS 7 with Plesk.

How to install PostgreSQL 10.x on CentOS 7 with Plesk

If you are wondering whether or not you can install PostgreSQL 10.x in CentOS 7 along with Plesk, you have come to the right place. While we are not able to get this done directly, our Support Team has come up with an alternative solution that is the perfect workaround to your problem.

In other words, our Support Techs recommends using a version of PostgreSQL supported by Plesk as well as OS vendor.

Moreover, the PostgreSQL package is available via the CentOS-7 Updates repository. It downloads PostgreSQL 9.2 version and in turn, Plesk Installer uses this to install PostgreSQL.

However, if we disable CentOS 7 Updates, Plesk Installer will not display PostgreSQL as available for installation. Furthermore, PostgreSQL is not recognized under Plesk > Tools & Settings > Server Components if it is manually installed on CentOS 7 from the RedHat repository.

Alternatively, here is the workaround solution by our Support Team:

  1. First, we will install the required PostgreSQL version from this link.
  2. Then we have to add it as a remote server that points to the local host under Database Server in Tools& Settings section.

Our Support Team recommends setting up PostgreSQL 10.x on a different port. This will prevent the connection from breaking in case we install Plesk PostgreSQL later on.
