At Bobcares, we offer solutions for every query, big and small, as a part of our AWS Support Services.
Let’s take a look at how our AWS Support Team is ready to demonstrate to our customers how to use WAF with an EC2 instance.
How to use WAF with an EC2 instance
A Web Application Firewall or WAF is responsible for protecting our APIs or web applications from web exploits as well as malicious bots. In other words, it offers protection from security comprises, excessive resource consumption, availability, and so on. It also helps us control the traffic to our applications via security rules.
If you are looking for a way to use WAF with an EC2 instance, you have come to the right place. Our Support Techs have come up with two different ways to achieve this, via AWS CloudFront or Application Load Balancer (ALB).
Deciding between the approaches depends on a few factors. In case our web application has more content that can be cached, AWS CloudFront along with WAF would be the better option.
Similarly, if the application cluster needs to scale in addition to having more dynamic content, Application Load Balancer with WAF would be the way to go.
According to our Support Techs, there is an additional fixed cost for Application Load Balancer besides the variable cost for each month. However, AWS CloudFront costs are dependent on variable and consumption costs.
In some scenarios, we can have CloudFront and ALB work together where we add the WAF to CloudFront only.
We hope this article helps you understand how to use WAF with an EC2 instance. If you run into any trouble, talk to our experts to find a solution.
