Let’s take a closer look at Cloudflare Preload Cache.

Cloudflare Preload Cache

Cloudflare accelerates customer websites by storing a copy of their content on the servers of the globally distributed data centers. It only caches resources that serve the request within the Cloudflare data center.

The Super Page Cache for Cloudflare Plugin: The Super Page Cache for Cloudflare plugin speeds up the website by taking website caching to the next level. There is no need to change any settings because this plugin works perfectly with the default settings.

Preloading Cache

Caching is done automatically. To cache resources, there is a need to visit the user’s local data center. So during the next visit, we will receive cached resources. Some websites receive only one visit per day to each page. However, the cache only loads for the second visit, making it less useful. As a result, it is important to preload the cache for those critical pages.

There are several approaches to achieve it. Our Support team recommends using Workers KV with Expiration Keys and the Cache API. The fetch is cached on the data center and placed in KV as well, but only once. Then if the data center is the same, take the cache version. Else, if it’s a new data center, obtain the KV version and store it in the new data center. The KV and Cache have expiration dates. However, the data can last up to Cache TTL + KV TTL. It also frees up resources on the server and speeds up responses.

Another approach for preloading cache includes building a CDN-independent solution so that users can quickly switch to a new CDN provider if something happens. In this approach, the CDN cache must preload critical user pages. The user doesn’t need to create and manage additional web servers specifically for target regions.

Another way for Cloudflare to preload cache is by adding a Page Rule to Cache Everything from the home page. Then include something like Flying Pages 109 to preload the cache.
