Juniper/Pulse Secure SSL VPN appliance and Azure MFA Server

Azure MFA Server works with the Juniper/Pulse Secure SSL VPN appliance to add security to Juniper/Pulse Secure SSL VPN logins and portal access. Use the LDAP or RADIUS protocols.  

1. Configuration of Juniper/Pulse Secure SSL VPN and Azure for LDAP: Using LDAP, connect the Juniper/Pulse SSL VPN to the MFA appliance.
2. Configuration of Juniper/Pulse Secure SSL VPN and Azure for RADIUS: Using RADIUS, connect the Juniper/Pulse Secure SSL VPN appliance to Azure.

Juniper/Pulse Secure SSL VPN and MFA Configuration for LDAP:

The Azure Multi-Factor Authentication server performs the function of an LDAP server. As an LDAP client, it applies the Juniper/Pulse Secure SSL VPN appliance. The LDAP server acts as a proxy, forwarding requests with multiple authentication factors to a destination directory service. When the proxy receives a response from the directory, it forwards it to the LDAP client. The access applies only when both the user credentials (primary authentication) and the MFA challenge are successful.

The diagram above represents the logical process flow for Azure MFA. The user experience for MFA is fairly similar to traditional login.  

Juniper/Pulse Secure SSL VPN and MFA Configuration for RADIUS:

RADIUS is used by the Azure Multi-Factor Authentication server. Citrix NetScaler SSL VPN appliance functions as a RADIUS client. The RADIUS server acts as a proxy, forwarding requests with multiple authentication factors to a destination directory service. The proxy obtains a response from the directory and forwards it to the RADIUS client. Only when both the user credentials (primary authentication) and the MFA challenge are successful is access granted. Figure 1 shows a reference diagram.

The above diagram depicts the logical process flow for MFA. The MFA user experience is very similar to traditional login.
