How to Add LXC Templates in Proxmox
Did you know that LXC templates refer to the pre-configured container templates that we can use to quickly create and deploy Linux containers?
In fact, these templates offer an easy way to set up containers and also include various distributions, like Ubuntu, Debian, CentOS, etc.
Let’s take a quick look at how to add LXC templates in Proxmox:
- First, we have to open a web browser and enter the URL of our Proxmox server.
- Then, head to the datacenter or node we need in the Proxmox web interface.
- After that, we have to click the Local storage option on the top menu bar. Then, choose “Templates” in the drop-down menu to access the Template Management section.
- Now, select the Upload button in the Template Management section. Then we have to upload an LXC template archive file. We can get LXC templates from different sources, like official distribution websites or third-party repositories.
- Then, select the Select File button and browse the local filesystem and select the LXC template file we want to add. After selecting the file, we have to click “Upload” to start the template import process.
- As a result, Proxmox extracts and imports the LXC template. After that, we will see the imported template listed in the Template Management section.
Furthermore, we can create a custom container template in Proxmox as seen here:
- First, head to the main Proxmox interface and select the datacenter or node on the left-hand side.
- Then, click Create CT (Create Container) and follow the on-screen instructions.
- When we select the OS, we will be able to see the imported LXC template listed as an option. Here, we have to select the desired template, enter a name, and configure other container settings.
In fact, by adding LXC templates in Proxmox, we can streamline the process of creating containers with specific operating systems and configurations.
