How to Install Cloudflare WARP on Linux

Warp is a free VPN service by Cloudflare. It allows organizations and individuals to have a faster, secure, and more private experience online. Furthermore, the WARP client comes with several modes, to accommodate different connection requirements.

WARP offers the following advantages:

  • It encrypts user data while in transit.
  • Warp is built on WireGuard.
  • Warp carries out request communicates over WireGuard protocol.

We can set it up on Linux from the command line. Our Support Techs are here to help you with this process.

In case we are not using arch linux, we have to install it from this link:

sudo pacman -S wireguard-tools
yay -S wgcf

Although we have to keep wireguard-tools installation in place, wgcf is a one-time use only.

After that we set up Cloudflare profiles with these commands:

wgcf register
wgcf generate

Then, it is time to copy the config with the following command:

sudo cp wgcf-profile.conf /etc/wireguard

Here are a couple more commands that will come in handy while using WARP:

  • Start:
     wg-quick up wgcf-profile
  • Stop:
    wg-quick up wgcf-profile
  • Enable:
    systemctl enable wg-quick@wgcf-profile

According to our Support Team, you can also resolve hosts on the local network by using the local DNS.

sudo vi /etc/wireguard/wgcf-profile.conf

At this point, we have to change the line DNS = 1.1.1.1 to the local secure dnscrypt server. This is how you Install Cloudflare WARP on Linux.
