Error Getaddrinfo Enotfound Redis | Troubleshooting

by | Dec 26, 2023

When a client attempting to connect to Redis is unable to resolve the hostname of the Redis server to an IP address, the “getaddrinfo ENOTFOUND” error in Redis appears. Bobcares, as a part of our Server Management Service offers solutions to every query that comes our way.

Solving error “getaddrinfo ENOTFOUND” in Redis

When a connection attempt fails to resolve the hostname of the Redis server to an IP address, the “getaddrinfo ENOTFOUND” error is displayed by the Redis client (such as Node.js, Python, etc.). Usually, misconfigured connection settings or problems with DNS resolution are the cause of this error.

1. Make sure we are connecting to the Redis server with the right IP address or hostname. Verify if the address is correct and solvable.

2. Verify if DNS resolution is a capability of the system or container. By using the command line to ping the Redis server hostname, we may verify DNS resolution.

3. Try connecting to the Redis server directly (without utilising the hostname) if at all feasible. By doing so, the DNS resolving problem may be isolated.

4. Verify that the Redis client cannot access the Redis server due to firewall restrictions or security group configurations.

5. Make sure that the Redis client container can properly resolve the hostname or IP address of the Redis container while utilising Docker.

6. Verify that the Redis server is operational and reachable from the client PC or container.

7. Verify that the Redis client and Redis server are able to communicate with each other due to no network-related problems. Verify the client and server’s network connection.

8. Restarting the Redis client software or the Redis server may occasionally fix transient problems.

9. Verify the connection settings one more time for any typos or syntactical mistakes.
