Virtualbox bridged network not working – How we fix it!

by | Jan 24, 2020

Are you stuck with the VirtualBox bridged network not working? We can help you fix it.

The bridge network divides the network into segments. VirtualBox has an option to change network to bridge network.

At Bobcares, we often get requests regarding VirtualBox errors, as a part of our Server Management Services.

Today, let’s see how our Support Engineers fix VirtualBox errors for our customers.

Causes for VirtualBox bridged network not working

This error occurs if the bridge network is not correctly configured for the virtual machine.

In a few cases, the bridge network option might be missing.

Even the incorrect network configuration can make the bridge network not to work.

Let’s discuss how our Support Engineers resolve the error for our customers.

How we fix VirtualBox bridged network not working

Recently one of our customers contacted us saying that the bridge network is not working for his virtual machine. On checking, we found that the bridge network was not selected for the VM. Now let’s discuss how our Support Engineers select the bridge network.

Bridge network in VirtualBox

First, we open the VirtualBox and turn off the virtual machine.

We select the virtual machine and click on Setting.

In the left pane, we select Network.

Then we select the Adapter. By default, the networking mode is NAT.

Thus, from Attached to drop-down we select Bridged Adapter.

Finally, we start the virtual machine.

After the change, the VM will use the Bridge network.

Bridge name missing

Another reason is that the bridge network is missing in the Adapter option. This error usually occurs in VirtualBox in Windows server.

The Network option is available for the Windows administrator user.

Thus, once we log in with the Administrator user the network option will be available.

We can change the adapter settings.

Network not up

If the network in the server is not configured properly then this error can occur. This is not related to the bridge setup with the network settings in the server.

Thus, if the bridge network is set up, our Support Engineers log in to the server from the console.

We check the network interface on the server. Then we check the network service in the server.

We correct it accordingly to resolve the error.
