How to Enable OSlogin Google Cloud
OS login offers us control access to virtual machine instances according to IAM permissions. Additionally, we can use it with or without 2FA. However, this does not work vice versa. In other words. We cannot use 2FA without using OS login.
According to our experts, OS login is not supported by:
- Windows Server & SQL Server virtual machines
- Fedora CoreOS virtual machines
How to enable OS Login
We can easily enable OS login/ OS login with 2FA authentication. For instance, if we prefer to enable OS login for all the virtual machines in the project, we have to set the metadata at the project level. However, if we require it for a single virtual machine, we can set the metadata at the instance level.
In fact, OS login is enabled as soon as we set the OS login metadata.
Our Support Engineers would like to point out that if we are enabling OS login 2FA, we have to set up 2FA on the Google account or domain as well. If not, access will be denied.
Enable OS Login during VM creation
First, create a VM that enables OS logins or OS logins with 2FA on startup and enter the following configurations:
- Head to t Networking, disks, security, management, sole tenancy section, and then expand the Security section.
- Next, expand the Manage access section.
- After that, choose Control VM access via IAM permissions.
- If we are opting for OS login 2FA, we have to choose Require two-step verification.
- Finally, select Create to create as well as start the VM.
