Module imagick already loaded in unknown on line 0 – Quick Fix!

by | Jan 11, 2020

Receiving an error ‘module Imagick already loaded in Unknown on line 0’? We can fix that for you.

Imagick is one of the most common PHP extensions that we use for creating and modifying any image using the ImageMagick library.

Here at Bobcares, we often receive requests regarding Imagick as a part of our Server Management Services.

Today, let’s see how our Support Engineers fix this IMagick error.

Why does the module Imagick show an already loaded error?

Many of our customers enable IMagick for modifying the images. However, they run into errors based on Imagick due to different reasons.

One of those errors is the ‘module Imagick already loaded in Unknown on line 0‘.

This error mainly occurs due to duplicate entry in the configuration file. And it specifies that the Imagick is loading twice in the server.

The error message appears as:

PHP Warning: Module imagick already loaded in Unknown on line 0.

How we fix the error ‘module Imagick already loaded in Unknown on line 0’?

Till now we’ve discussed the error message. Now, let’s discuss how our Support Engineers fix this error.

Recently, one of our customers approached us with an error relating to IMagick.

The exact error appeared as:

module imagick already loaded in unknown on line 0

Here, he was trying to perform php-fpm -v after installing the Imagick extension for his PHP.

Looking at the error we found that the problem was with the duplicate entry in the php.ini file.

So we went checking the php.ini file in the server for the duplicate entry.

At last, we found that the line extension=imagick.so was present in it. So we commented this line as below

;extension=imagick.so

Finally, this fixed the error.

In another case, one of our customers had created echo extension=imagick.so in the php.ini file.

And echo extension=imagick.ini manually while installing the IMagick PHP extension.

So in order to fix this error, we deleted the imagick.ini file from the customer’s account.

This also fixed the error effectively.
