Explore more about samba
Samba is a Freeware program that allows end-users to access and use files, printers, and other commonly shared resources over the internet.
Using samba, Windows users can easily access the services offered by UNIX by Windows users. Also, they access the files and services from UNIX without knowing the source.
Also, the management is mainly through a protocol suite CIFS (Common Internet File System).
How we fix Samba NT_status_login_failure?
Recently, one of our customers approached us with the below error in the screenshot. He received the error when trying to mount the file system.
Our Engineers tried listing the contents of the remote file system and were successful. However, the error was still persisting.
On further checking, our Support Engineers found that the customer was using some special characters in the password. So, we reset the password and tested it.
Finally, we were able to mount the file successfully.
In another case, a customer came with the same error. On analyzing, we found that the customer was trying to log on to the SMB client using AD authentication on Linux.
In this case, we confirmed that the security settings and workgroups are properly set in the samba configuration file (smb.conf). We found that the customer was using the below command.
$smbclient -L myhost -user workgroup
But it was showing the same error again. So we made some changes to the command. We tried adding DOMAIN/ before the user for specifying the domain and –W option for specifying the workgroup. The command was something as below.
$smbclient -L myhost -U DOMAIN/user -W workgroup
Finally, this fixed the error.
