How to Use UpdraftPlus With Linode Object Storage

UpdraftPlus connects with Linode Object Storage through the S3-compatible option. This setup stores your WordPress backups outside the server, which helps protect your site data and keeps backups safe.

Step 1: Get Your Linode API Key

Log in to the Linode Cloud Manager and open the My Profile section. Authenticate using your account password, then move to the API Keys tab. Create a new API key, copy it, and store it securely. This is the only time the full key appears. Next, create an Object Storage bucket in Linode and note the bucket name and region.

Step 2: Open UpdraftPlus Settings in WordPress

Sign in to your WordPress dashboard and make sure UpdraftPlus is active. Open Settings and select UpdraftPlus Backups. Click the Settings tab and scroll to the remote storage section. Choose the S3 Generic option, which supports Linode Object Storage.

Step 3: Enter Linode Storage Details

Enter your Linode bucket name in the location field. Add the S3 endpoint based on your selected region, such as us east 1 linodeobjects com. Paste the access key and secret key you created earlier. If needed, add a folder name inside the bucket to keep backups organized.

Step 4: Test the Connection

Click the Test button to check whether UpdraftPlus can connect to Linode Object Storage. If the test fails, review the bucket name, endpoint, and API keys carefully before trying again.

Step 5: Schedule Your Backups

After a successful test, save the settings. Choose backup schedules for your files and database based on how often your site changes. Once saved, UpdraftPlus starts backing up your WordPress site to Linode automatically.

Set up Linode Object Storage With Backuply

Backuply supports Linode Object Storage through an S3-compatible setup. This connection lets you store WordPress backups safely outside your server and access them whenever needed.

Step 1: Prepare Linode Object Storage

Log in to your Linode Cloud Manager and open the Object Storage section from the left menu. Create a new bucket by choosing a unique name and selecting a region such as us East-1 or AP South One. After that, open the Access Keys tab and create a new access key. Copy both the key ID and secret key right away and store them securely since the secret key appears only once.

Next, note your storage endpoint. It follows the format region dot linodeobjects dot com and can be found in the bucket details.

Step 2: Open Backuply in WordPress

Sign in to your WordPress admin panel and open Backuply from the left navigation. Go to the Dashboard and select the Backup Location tab. This section manages where your backups are stored.

Step 3: Add a New Backup Location

Click the Add Backup Location button. In the form that appears, enter a name for the location so you can identify it easily later. Choose an S3-compatible storage type from the list.

Paste your Linode access key and secret key into the required fields. Enter the endpoint without adding any protocol. Then type the exact bucket name you created in Linode to store each backup disk image securely outside the server.

Step 4: Save and Confirm the Setup

After filling in all the details, click Add Backup Location. If the information is correct, Backuply saves the location instantly. Your Linode Object Storage is now ready to receive WordPress backups.
