The Zimbra incremental backup script is called “zmbackup”. Furthermore, it can automate the backup process. This script uses the “rsync” tool to transfer only the changed data between the source and destination servers. Additionally, the script uses the Zimbra “backup” command to create a full backup of the configuration and metadata.

Here is an example of a Zimbra incremental backup script:

The above script first checks if a full backup has already been taken earlier by searching for the latest backup file with the name pattern zimbra-full-*.tar.gz in the backup directory. In case it does not find a full backup, the script takes a full backup using zmbackup -f and exits.

However, in case a full backup exists, the script creates a new incremental backup using zmbackup -i and mentions the previous full backup file using the -i flag and the new backup file using the -t flag. Furthermore, the new backup file is named with the current date and time.
