SolusVM OpenVZ templates made easy

by | Nov 3, 2021

SolusVM OpenVZ templates are no longer a difficult task with Bobcares by your side.

At Bobcares, we pride ourselves in offering solutions for any query you may have as a part of our much-sought-after Server Management Service.

Let’s take a look at how our skilled Support Engineers create templates in OpenVZ without running into errors.

How to create SolusVM OpenVZ templates

According to our efficient Support Techs, we can create OpenVZ templates in SolusVM without too much trouble with these steps:

  1. First, we will connect OpenVZ 7 node via SSH.
  2. Then we will prepare a source container and install or remove the required packages and utilities.
  3. After that, we will stop, then mount and enter the mount point of the container as seen below:
    # vzctl stop VMID && vzctl mount VMID && cd /vz/root/VMID/

We can find VIMD by navigating to the VMID column under the Virtual Servers section in the SolusVM interface as seen below:

    SolusVM OpenVZ templates VMID

    SolusVM OpenVZ templates VMID

    ………………….

  4. Next, we will create a template, exit, and then unmount the container with this command:
tar -cvzpf /vz/template/cache/OS-version-arch-customname.tar.gz . && cd && vzctl umount VMID

The template format has to follow the scheme seen above. For instance, if OS is CentOS 8 x64_86, the filename of the template will be centos-8-x86_64-solusvm.tar.gz. (the dot at the end is intentional)

  5. Next, we will create a cache from the template.

    For instance:

    /usr/libexec/ovz-template-converter –verbose /vz/template/cache/centos-8-x86_64-solusvm.tar.gz
  6. Then, we will upload the created template to the Master node. Next, we will add it to SolusVM and then sync it with the specific OpenVZ node.
  7. After that, we will create the same cache from the template, on the specific OpenVZ nodes where the template has been uploaded:
    /usr/libexec/ovz-template-converter –verbose /vz/template/cache/centos-8-x86_64-solusvm.tar.gz
