How to add an alias directory to Apache WAMP? With our Server Management Services, Bobcares provides solutions to the question.
How to add an alias directory to Apache WAMP?
WAMP Server includes an interface for generating Apache WAMP alias directories. The steps to add an alias directory is so simple.
- Firstly, left-click on the system tray icon.
- Now select Apache >> Alias directories.
- Choose “Add an alias”.
- A command prompt will appear, requesting to create an alias URL. Provide the names of the alias. This will be what is added to the
http://domain_name/address
. - Now type the location of the folder that will house the pages for this website.
- Finally, hit “Enter”.
The alias will now be configured under WAMP. Hence, we’ve added an alias directory to WAMP.
How to fix it if the alias didn’t work?
There is nothing to worry about if we face difficulty in working with an alias. Here’s a simple solution to fix it. When we use the WAMP server to generate the alias, it creates the appropriate file in the correct location, but it adds all the content in one line. So we need to edit it.
The steps to edit the file are as follows:
- Firstly, left-click on the WAMP icon in the system tray.
- Navigate to Apache -> Alias Directories -> ALIAS_NAME -> Edit Alias. It will open the alias file in Notepad.
- Now edit the configuration file to reflect the above contents and save it.
Change the configuration file to meet our requirements. Wamp Server should restart automatically (if not, we can restart it manually from the tray icon). After restarting, the alias should operate with or without the trailing slash.
