CCS cpanel-ccs is generating high CPU processes and causing trouble?

At Bobcares, we look forward to coming up with solutions for every query as a part of our Server Management Service is the answer

Let’s take a look at how our experienced Support Team helped out a customer recently with high CPU process generation.

What to do if CCS cpanel-ccs is generating high CPU processes?

Is your cPanel-ccs generating a high CPU in the WHM process manager? Well, you are in luck! Our Support Engineers have come up with a quick fix for this particular issue.

PID = 3541 = cPanel-ccs = 80.47% CPU USAGE =
/opt/cpanel-ccs/.develop/virtualenv/bin/python
/opt/cpanel-ccs/.develop/virtualenv/bin/twistd
--reactor=select -n caldav -f /opt/cpanel-ccs/conf/caldavd-dev.plist
-o ProcessType=Slave -o BindAddresses=:: -o PIDFile=caldav-instance-0.pid
-o ErrorLogFile=None -o ErrorLogEnabled=False -o LogID=0
-o MultiProcess/ProcessCount=2 -o ControlPort=0 -o MetaFD=17

PID = 3535 = cPanel-ccs = 74.19 =
/opt/cpanel-ccs/.develop/virtualenv/bin/python
/opt/cpanel-ccs/.develop/virtualenv/bin/twistd
--reactor=select -n caldav -f /opt/cpanel-ccs/conf/caldavd-dev.plist
-o ProcessType=Slave -o BindAddresses=:: -o PIDFile=caldav-instance-1.pid
-o ErrorLogFile=None -o ErrorLogEnabled=False -o LogID=1
-o MultiProcess/ProcessCount=2 -o ControlPort=0 -o MetaFD=22

In the above example, we can see that the pid files are invalid or empty for the CalDAV service. We can also find this information in the error log for cs at /opt/cpanel-ccs/data/Logs/error.log as seen below:

2021-03-13T14:15:30+0800 [caldav-0] Reading configuration from file:
/opt/cpanel-ccs/conf/caldavd-dev.plist
2021-03-13T14:15:30+0800 [caldav-0] Pidfile
/opt/cpanel-ccs/data/Logs/state/caldav-instance-0.pid contains
non-numeric value
2021-03-13T14:15:31+0800 [caldav-1] Reading configuration from file:
/opt/cpanel-ccs/conf/caldavd-dev.plist
2021-03-13T14:15:31+0800 [caldav-1] Pidfile
/opt/cpanel-ccs/data/Logs/state/caldav-instance-1.pid contains
non-numeric value

If the files, the following commands will yield no output.

cat /opt/cpanel-ccs/data/Logs/state/caldav-instance-0.pid
cat /opt/cpanel-ccs/data/Logs/state/caldav-instance-1.pid

However, the files may also contain non-numeric values resulting in no output.

How to resolve CCS cpanel-ccs is generating high CPU processes?

According to our Support Techs, the cPanel CCS service usually generates some load during startup that goes away after it is complete.

However, in case the CalDAV service is not able to start and confirm that is running, it results in restarting repeatedly, thereby increasing the load on the server.

In this scenario, our Support Team recommends removing the invalid pid files mentioned below:

/bin/rm /opt/cpanel-ccs/data/Logs/state/caldav-instance-0.pid
/bin/rm /opt/cpanel-ccs/data/Logs/state/caldav-instance-1.pid

This will get CalDAV up and running, enabling the cPanel CCS service to run without any further issues.
