VNC Error 10060

Virtual Network Computing (VNC) is a method that enables remote computer control. VNC enables the transfer of data between the server and client machines by utilizing the RFB (Remote Frame Buffer) protocol. It also allows data transfer between servers and clients. We will feel like we are physically connected to the server because of the peripheral inputs and outputs from our keyboard and mouse.

The most frequent issues that VNC users run into are display and connectivity errors. A connection-timeout error happens when attempting to connect to the internet, for example, when the system is unable to connect to the mail server of the Internet service provider within the allotted amount of time. When we attempt to connect in PASV mode, which prefers PORT for data connections to servers, this error frequently appears.

In this article, we will see more about the VNC WSAETIMEDOUT Connectivity Error.

Troubleshooting VNC Error 10060

Some of the troubleshooting methods for the VNC 10060 error are as follows:

1. In the Site Properties of the problematic site, click the Type tab, then change the Data Connection Type to Use PORT when we see an error log similar to the one below.

COMMAND:> PASV

227 Entering Passive Mode (xxx,xx,xxx,xx,x,xxx).

COMMAND:> LIST

STATUS:> Connecting ftp data socket xxx.xx.xxx.xx:xxxx...

ERROR:> Can't connect to remote server. Socket error = #10060.

ERROR:> Failed to establish data socket.

2. The error also occurs when the client times out while waiting for the server to send a listing for a very large directory (containing thousands of files). We can fix it by increasing the timeout value to a higher value. (Tools >> Global Options >> Transfer >> Reconnect and resume in n seconds if nothing received)

3. We must check to see if the server name if one was used, resolves to the right address.

4. Make sure the subnet mask is configured correctly.

5. Check to make sure the destination IP address is accurate.

6. Try connecting to a different server to make sure the issue is not local.

7. Pinging a router and then ping an address outside of the router in order to verify the router is operational while using one.

8. To ensure all routers along the connection path are functional, run a traceroute to the destination.

9. Under Site Settings >> Type tab, change to the opposite data connection type (PASV or PORT).

10. Ping the address if we can.
