VPN Error 619- How to resolve it easily?

by | Oct 28, 2019

Have you ever tried connecting VPN and got stuck with VPN error 619?

Setting up and running a VPN is a challenging task. It mostly ends up in different errors.

The error 619 occurs mainly due to security issues like the wrong username, password, etc.

At Bobcares, we often receive requests to fix this error as part of our VPN Management Services.

Today, let’s discuss this error in detail and see how our Support Engineers fix it for our customers.

Causes of VPN error 619

We trust VPN for a safer browsing experience, isn’t it?

But usually, VPN connection fails, returning tricky error codes. Error 619 mainly happens when we try to connect to a VPN on Windows Machine.

This error pops up when an active VPN suddenly gets disconnected from the VPN server or when the computer is attempting to establish a new connection to the VPN server.

Also, it returns a “verifying username and password” message before the 619 error. This clearly indicates an error during the sign-in process.

Let’s now get into some effective fixes for this error.

How we fix this error?

Recently one of our customers approached us with a VPN error. He was using a Windows machine and have several customers.

He successfully connected to all of their VPN servers, except one, for which he got a 619 error.

Our Support Engineers checked the error and found different ways to mitigate this error. Let’s discuss some top fixes in detail.

1. Avoid VPN connection clashes

Sometimes, it is possible to have multiple VPN clients installed on one PC. When they run simultaneously, it could create clashes.

So, we need to ensure that only one VPN connection is running. We mainly check for running applications and Windows services.

Usually, we reboot the computer if necessary to ensure no VPN applications are running.

2. Disable firewalls and anti-virus programs

Some firewalls and anti-virus programs block access to VPN ports. Running these programs mostly ends up in 619 error.

Therefore, we can temporarily disable these programs and firewalls to troubleshoot the error.

3. Configure the Point-To-Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP)

Similarly, misconfigurations in PPTP settings can cause this error.

PPTP is a networking standard for connecting to VPNs. Correct PPTP settings are necessary for proper VPN connections.

So, we analyze the PPTP settings to troubleshoot the error.
