Earth Hour at Bobcares

by | Mar 29, 2010

Earth Hour started in 2007 in Sydney, Australia and the movement has been growing ever since! It is observed for 60 minutes each year on the last Saturday of March. This year it was on March 27th from 8:30pm to 9:30pm local time. This is the second time Bobcares observed Earth Hour, and we are committed to supporting it for as long as it takes!

Earth Hour is when homes and businesses, all around the world, turn off their lights for one hour to make their stand against climate change. You must be thinking “What good will turning of your lights for one hour do?“. Well if your thinking about the amount of energy saved…its not a lot. If your thinking about the cut in carbon emissions….it wont even make a dent in the 27 billion tons pumped into the atmosphere each year by human activity. “Then whats the point??” Well sadly, climate change is not just an environmental problem, its a political problem too. The only way to effectively curb greenhouse gas emissions, a primary factor in climate change, is for the world governments to work together. This is what they hoped to achieve at the Copenhagen summit held last year. Though a step in the right direction, it did not achieve what we had hoped for. That is why its important, now more than ever, that we make ourselves heard, not just through words, but in action!
