AWS error creating EIP AddressLimitExceeded

While working with the Elastic IP (EIP) address in AWS, we may sometimes run into the “AddressLimitExceeded” error. This error shows that we’ve exceeded the limit for EIP for each AWS Region.

As IPv4 addresses are a limited public resource, all AWS accounts are limited to five EIPs per Region by default. So it is better to use an EIP address primarily for the ability to remap the address to another instance in the event of instance failure and to use DNS hostnames for all other inter-node communication.

We can know the number of EIP addresses in use by accessing the Amazon EC2 console and selecting EIPs from the navigation pane. In order to check the current account limit for EIP addresses, we can use any of the below methods:

1. Access EC2 console. Select Limits from the navigation pane, then type IP into the search field. The maximum number is shown by EC2-VPC Elastic IPs.

2. Access the Service Quotas console dashboard, and select Amazon EC2. If it is not listed on the Dashboard, select AWS services, provide EC2 in the search field, and then select Amazon EC2. On the Amazon EC2 service quotas page, enter IP in the search field. The limit is EC2-VPC Elastic IPs.
