Here is a quick guide to help you set up ALB authentication with Amazon Cognito. Our AWS Support team is here to lend a hand with your queries and issues.

ALB authentication with Amazon Cognito

Today, our experts are going to take us through the process of configuring ALB authentication to use Amazon Cognito for authentication.

ALB authentication with Amazon Cognito

Step1: Create an Amazon Cognito User Pool and add an App Client:

  1. To begin with, we have to create a new User Pool in the Amazon Cognito console.
  2. Then, we have to create a new App Client in the App integration section.
  3. Now, note down the App client ID.

Step 2: Configure the ALB listener:

  1. First, we have to create a new listener for the ALB that is listening on the right port.
  2. Then, select Cognito User Pool as the authentication provider under the Authentication section.
  3. Next, we have to choose the User Pool and App Client that we created earlier.
  4. After that, enter the domain name for the user pool as well as the callback URLs that are allowed for the App Client.

Step 3: Set up the Cognito domain:

  1. Now, we have to go to the Domain name section in the Cognito console and create a domain name for our User Pool.
  2. After that, it is time to verify the domain name by creating a DNS record with our domain registrar.
  3. Next, we have to update the App Client settings to use the custom domain name.

Step 4: Configure the target group:

  1. Now, we have to create a new target group for the application’s instances and then register them with the target group.
  2. Finally, head to the Authentication section and choose the same User Pool and App Client that we chose in Step

After following these steps, our ALB will be configured to use Amazon Cognito for authentication.
