Let us take a closer look at the AWS alb SSL termination. At Bobcares our AWS support service can give you a detailed note on how the AWS alb Termination works.

HTTPS listener for AWS ALB SSL

aws alb ssl termination

A listener is a process that monitors for connections. A listener can define itself after the creation of an aws alb or load balancer. And a user can introduce listeners to the alb at any time.

A user can create an HTTPS listener, which uses encrypted communications, also known as SSL offload. This functionality encrypts traffic between the aws alb and clients initiating SSL or TLS sessions.

Follow the instructions below to add an HTTP listener to the aws alb. Make sure to specify the available target group before adding an HTTP listener. This permits the addition of forwarding action to the default listener rule.

Add an HTTP listener

A protocol can generate a listener and a port for client connections to the aws alb or the load balancer. A target group for the default listener rule can also be put in the configuration.

To add an HTTP listener using the aws console
  1. Firstly, start the Amazon EC2 console and the aws alb will be present in the LOAD BALANCING section of the navigation pane.
  2. After that, Choose an aws alb and then Listeners, Add listener.
  3. Then, Choose HTTP and keep the default port or input a new port for Protocol: port.
  4. For Default actions either select Add action, Forward to, and a target group. Or
choose the add action, Redirect to, and enter the URL for the redirect. Or Choose Add action, Return a fixed response, and, optionally, enter a response code and response content. Use the check mark icon to save the action.

  5. Finally, Choose the Save button.
To add an HTTP listener using the AWS CLI

Create the listener and default rule with the create-listener command, and define additional listener rules with the create-rule command. This will help in completing the process. this is the final step in the process of AWS alb SSL termination.
