All About AWS WAF2 & its Benefits

AWS Web Application Firewall protects our web applications and APIS from web exploits and bots that compromise security, affect availability, or consume resources. Furthermore, it monitors HTTP and HTTPS requests to Amazon CloudFront, an Application Load Balancer, Amazon API Gateway REST API, or an AWS AppSync GraphQL API.

Additionally, AWS WAFV2 offers us access control to our content. In fact, we can also set up a custom error page when a request is blocked.

AWS WAF2 is the latest version of the AWS WAF API. It offers several significant improvements over the earlier version. However, we cannot use AWS WAFV2 to access any AWS WAF resources created earlier. In fact, we will have access only to the old rules web ACLs as well as other AWS WAF resources via the AWS WAF Classic APIs.

• With a single request, we can now define a rule group for a web ACL, as well as update it. AWS WAFV2 allows us to define all rule specifications in JSON format and then pass them to the rule group or web ACL calls.
• The restrictions by AWS WAF on the use of rules are more closely in tune with the cost of running each type of rule. Rule groups include capacity parameters, so we are aware of how much a rule group will cost when we use it.
