Let’s look at the DNSOMatic details in Cloudflare in more detail.
Cloudflare DNSOMatic
DNS-O-Matic is a platform that allows users to simultaneously update their dynamic IP address information with multiple operators. So, by creating an account with this service, we can add multiple DynDNS providers. DNSOMatic is, in fact, a translator between the various Dynamic DNS providers’ protocols.
If the device (router, server, Ethernet controller) does not support DDNS, software that monitors and reports IP address changes to the DNS-o-Matic platform must be installed. The platform will automatically update information for the DynDNS providers that the user has chosen.
DNSOMatic allows us to select which Dynamic DNS services we want to notify about. All of this is available for free through a single user-friendly interface.
How does Dynamic DNS work?
To use the dynamic DNS service, first select a provider. Then the vendor will provide a server to maintain the correspondence of the constantly changing IP address and fixed domain name.
When the device’s IP address changes, the device notifies the Dynamic DNS server. Thus the DynDNS ensures that it detects the changes to IP addresses and properly updates DNS records.
If the customer wishes to connect to his device, he must send a DNS request to the registered domain on the DynDNS server.
Then DDNS server automatically provides the current IP address of the internet service provider stored under the name.
Configuration of DNSOMatic
The following information is required for DNS-O-Matic configuration:
- EMAIL: (The associated account must have sufficient DNS management privileges)
- The Cloudflare Global API key.
- Domain name
- Hostname which is dynamic
We must configure DNSOMATIC as follows:
- Service: Cloudflare is the service.
- E-Mail: E-mail address registered with Cloudflare.
- Cloudflare API Token.
- Then, a dynamic hostname.
- Finally a Domain name.
