This error can happen if the artificial limitation is imposed on a user or when hidden files use a large amount of disk space.

At Bobcares, we often get requests to fix disk quota exceeded in WordPress as part of our Server Management Services.

Today, let’s get into the details and see how our Support Engineers fix disk quota exceeded in WordPress.

How we fix disk quota exceeded error in WordPress?

At Bobcares, where we have more than a decade of expertise in managing servers, we see many customers face problems while managing WordPress.

Now, let’s see the major reasons for WordPress quota related errors and how our Support Engineers fix the top errors.

User limited privileges

Recently, one of our customers had a problem with his WordPress site. He was getting an error like Write error: disk quota exceeded.

On checking our Support Engineers found that an artificial limitation is imposed on the user which prevents the user from using the disk space. Usually, disk space is a limitation on a disk. So the user’s allowed space can be used at its peak.

Therefore, we upgraded the disk quota for that user and solved the error.

The storage limit for a website

Similarly, another customer had upgraded the WordPress multi-site “network” installations to version 3.5. However, when he tried to add a new image to the media library he got an error message that said,

Sorry, you have used all of your storage quota of 10mb.

On checking, we discovered that the website limit had surpassed.

So, our Support Engineers increased the WordPress storage as follows.

1. Initially, we logged in to the WordPress site and navigated to My Sites >> Network Admin >> Select Settings >> Network Settings.

2. Then, we found the ‘Site upload space’ field and increased the storage limit.

4. Finally, we saved changes.

Besides, we always make sure that the user has enough quota allocation in cPanel server. if not we increased it too.

Temporary files

Sometimes, many customers experience this error while creating a WordPress backup. Usually, this error happens when the temporary files use huge disk space. At that time, users can get the following error too.

php: ZipArchive::close(): Write error: Disk quota exceeded, /storage/ssd5/458/5703458/public_html/wp-content/plugins/backupwordpress/classes/backup/class-backup-engine-file-zip-archive.php, 46.

It was a matter of lack of space during the zip creation (temporary files). Sometimes, increasing the space vanishes the error.

Also, deleting all unnecessary files, which will free up the space. Therefore, we can create a backup without any error.

Here, our Support Engineers had deleted all the unnecessary files under the WordPress site and solved the error.
