We can generally take the following steps to route traffic through a floating IP on Hetzner Cloud. At Bobcares, with our Server Management Service, we can handle your Hetzner Cloud issues.
Steps to set up floating IP on Hetzner Cloud
The general steps to route traffic through a floating IP on Hetzner Cloud are as follows:
Allocate floating IP
To deploy a floating IP, assign one in the Hetzner Cloud panel and link it to the server of choice. Remember to note the Floating IP address.
Set up floating IP
Configure the network settings on the server using SSH so they can detect and use the Floating IP.
Linux: To assign the Floating IP to the server’s network interface, use the ip command or update the network configuration files.
Windows: Go to the network adapter settings and give the server a Floating IP address as an additional IP address.
Modify network routes
Ensure that the Floating IP is the source IP address for all outbound traffic by modifying the routing tables. Depending on the operating system we’re running, this step can be different.
Linux: Add a new route with the Floating IP as the source address using the ip command.
Windows: To add a new route, launch the command prompt as an administrator and type the route.
Ensure connectivity
Check to see if the server can access the internet and if the Floating IP address is the source of any outgoing traffic. To make sure connectivity is operating well, we can run a ping or visit external websites.
