OVH IPv6 gateway | All About

If you are struggling to configure IPv6 for your new OpenBSD installation on an OVH-dedicated server, you are in the right place.

OVH IPv6 gateway | All About

Although IPv6 is the future of Internet communication, it can be a bit challenging to set up. Today, our experts will take you through the steps to enable IPv6 on your OVH server.

  1. First, we have to make sure our server has a static IP address. A static IP helps maintain a reliable connection. We can easily request one from the OVH account manager.
  2. Next, we have to log in to the OVH Control Panel.
  3. Then, head to the “My Services” tab and click the “Server” tab.
  4. After that, we have to choose the server we want to configure for Ipv6.
  5. Now, click the “IPv6” tab and choose the “Enable” option. This will activate IPv6 for our server.
  6. Next, enter the IPv6 address we want to use in the “IPv6 Address” field. This address helps with the server’s communication.
  7. Finally, it is time to click Save to save the settings. Now, our OVH server will be ready to use Ipv6.

About the IPv6 Gateway and Prefix Length

We have to set the interface’s prefix to /56. This will allow the server to access the IPv6 gateway. Furthermore, remember that ICMPv6 has to be allowed in the pf rules to ensure proper functionality.

Additionally, the /64 address pool we get from the ISP is key for creating address pools and static address leases.

How to Enable IPv6 Unicast-Routing

Did you know that IPv6 unicast-routing helps the switch to correctly handle IPv6 traffic?

We can enable it with this command:

ipv6 unicast-routing

Similarly, we can disable it with this command:

no ipv6 unicast-routing

Furthermore, we can set our IPv6 Address by heading to the network settings and selecting the “I want to set IPv6” option. Then, we have to enter our desired IP address in the IPv6 address field.
