pfSense HAProxy Add Header | Tutorial

Let’s take a quick look at how to add a header using HAProxy in pfSense:

  1. To begin with, open a web browser and head to our pfSense firewall’s web interface. The URL is https://<pfSense_IP> by default.
  2. Then, head to Services in the top menu of the pfSense interface.
  3. Next, choose “HAProxy” from the dropdown menu.
  4. After that, we have to create a HAProxy Frontend if one does not exist.
  5. Then, open the frontend configuration to edit it.
  6. We have to scroll down to the “Advanced pass thru” section to add custom HTTP headers.
  7. At this point, we have to add the header we want to include in the HTTP request in the “Custom request header” field.
We can mention the header name and value in the format Header-Name: Header-Value.

  8. Then, click Add and save the custom header.
  9. Once we add the custom header, head to the bottom of the page and click Save to save the changes to our HAProxy configuration.
  10. Now, it is time to click Apply Changes to apply the changes to make them effective.
  11. Finally, we can test the HAProxy configuration to make sure that the custom header is added to the HTTP requests. Furthermore, we can use a web browser’s developer tools to inspect the HTTP headers in the requests.
