How to Set Up UTunnel VPN Server in Vultr?

Easy VPN server deployment is made possible by UTunnel with several well-known cloud providers, including Vultr. In this article, we’ll look into the steps to set up a UTunnel VPN server in Vultr:

1. After logging into the Vultr account, select the Plus (plus) or Deploy Instance buttons located on the right side of the dashboard.

2. Based on the needs, select a server choice (cloud computing, high frequency, etc.) and the server’s location. Click the Marketplace Apps link under the Server Type section, type UTunnel into the search bar, and then choose the UTunnel VPN software. Deploy the Vultr instance after selecting the server size of the choice.

3. We can now see the instance listed on the Vultr dashboard. Once the server setup is complete, record the IP address of the instance.

4. Continue to register, log in to the UTunnel dashboard, and select the Create Server option by clicking on the Create Server button on the dashboard.

5. The details of the billing address will then need to be provided. Either supply the data or skip the stage and complete it at a later time.

6. The choice of server type and subscription is the next step. Enter the server details and select the On-Premise option here.

7. Go to the bottom right of the screen and click the Proceed button.

8. We can view the status of server creation on the UTunnel dashboard after completing the payment.

UTunnel VPN One-Click App

UTunnel VPN one-click app is a convenient solution available on platforms like Vultr that simplifies the deployment of VPN servers. With just a single click, users can effortlessly set up their own VPN server, eliminating the complexities typically associated with manual configuration.

9. We will be taken to the Server Details screen, where a registration token will be seen after that process is complete. Take a copy of this token of registration.

10. Now create an SSH connection to the Vultr server. To finish the next steps, we’ll need sudo access. Once we have successfully logged in, run the actions listed below. Disable the firewall’s default rules first. The firewall rules that UTunnel has built-in will load automatically.

Then, run the below commands:

utunnel vpn vultr

The registration token we copied from the Server Details page must be used in place of YOUR_REG_TOKEN in the following command (Step #7). The token we acquired in the previous step should be used in place of the string “REG_TOKEN” in the first command.

11. Verify that the following ports can receive VPN connections from inbound connections.

Ports used for OpenVPN connections: TCP 443, UDP 443, and UDP 53 (if scramble VPN is enabled).

For IPSEC connections: UDP 4500, UDP 500

For managing UTunnel services like live sessions, firewall, and site-to-site tunnelling: TCP 38081

We can now create VPN connections with the Vultr VPN server.
