Thanks to the WP Migrate DB plugin, moving WordPress sites is no longer messy.
It helps us to copy a WordPress database from one location to another quickly.
At Bobcares, we often get requests from our customers to migrate the WordPress website under one domain to another domain as part of our Server Management Services.
Today, let’s get into the details on how our Support Engineers help with the migration of WordPress websites.
Why WP Migrate DB?
WordPress website migration is a common request from our customers.
Moving the WordPress website from one to another is easier, while the database migration is critical.
In the earlier days, the common method was to download the database from one website and upload it to the destination website. In such cases, database migration often causes problems due to URL references. The URL within the database is of the current web server and its directory structure so when we migrate we have to replace the entries to the destination web server.
Luckily, this process is made easier by WP Migrate DB, which allows us to sync it directly between two sites. Not only pull/push the WordPress database but also replace the URL and file path with destination home.
Let’s get into the details on how our Support Engineers help in migrating the Word press website using this plugin.

Here, let us see how our Support Engineers help our customers in migrating the WordPress database.
1. Initially, we log in to the dashboard of the old site and install the plugin “WP Migrate DB” and activate it (activate the plugin on both websites).
2. We select the Tool’s menu in the Dashboard, and then we click the Migrate DB tool in it.
Then the following window pops up:
3. After that, we check the Export File option. Then Uncheck both Save as file to your computer and Compress file with gzip.
4. Kindly note that we won’t gone for Find & Replace option and update the URL since it will modify the site’s current DB
5. The old URL will be already listed in the first FIND box. So that we enter the new URL in the Replacement box.
For example
//your_domain_name
6. We entered the new webserver path in the second Replace box.
For example:
/home/user_name/public_html
7. After all editing, we click the Export option and a new DB dump file has been stored to wp-content/uploads/wp-migrate-db
8. Then we proceed with Rsync website contents to the public_html directory of the new site and correct the ownership.
9. Now, we go to the new website, then create a new database and user in the cPanel of the new site. Also, we correct the wp-config.php file with these new DB details.
10. Finally, restore the DB dump file in wp-content/uploads/wp-migrate-db directory to the newly created database.
Once everything is in order, we recommend deleting this plugin from both sites.
