Using AWS DataSync, backup archives and files can be easily protected. At Bobcares, with our AWS Support Services, we can handle your AWS issues.
AWS DataSync Backup
Customers may quickly, simply, and securely back up their data to and from AWS using the online data transfer service known as AWS DataSync. It offers speeds up to 10 times quicker than open-source solutions. This is due to its custom-built parallel transfer methodology. We can be sure that the data was correctly transmitted due to the integrated data verification, which is available for both data in flight and data at rest.
AWS DataSync Backup – Working
A DataSync agent is set up in the on-premises VMware environment as a VM. We create a job to copy data from the on-premises source storage to the AWS destination storage. The process to transfer the data safely is then carried out. AWS DataSync service grows to match the task’s performance requirements. It is designed to operate with AWS storage services.
The need for extra storage to host files and backup archives increases along with the quantity of data created on-premises.
For file and backup archives, S3 Glacier or S3 Glacier Deep Archive is an excellent option. Because the information in archives may often be kept for a few months or more, is not changing, and is not frequently used. We can use one of the other S3 storage types if this isn’t the case for the specific workload.
We have to turn on object versioning on the bucket if we want the Amazon S3 archived data to be completely protected. When versioning is enabled, updating an object’s information or rewriting it results in the creation of a new version while keeping the old one. This can protect us against the effects of unauthorized removals and overwrites.
Any modifications made to the on-premises storage are copied using DataSync. Object versioning lets us retrieve the data from earlier versions if something happens to breach the on-premises data storage. Be aware that on-premises changes to the metadata only produce a new version of the S3 object. There is also more than one version of an S3 object that may be created by a single DataSync job execution.
How To Set Up AWS DataSync?
In order to use the local NFS or SMB shares and copy the data to AWS, AWS DataSync needs agents. An agent is set up locally in the VMware environment as a VM. The agent carries out a transfer job one at a time. We must install multiple agents if we wish to transfer files from multiple file shares at once. Additionally, there are some situations in which sending a single file sharing using many agents is more effective.
When using it to safeguard the backup or file archives, we should do a full transfer once. Then we should do continuous incremental transfers to keep the cloud archive current. The continuous incremental transfers merely duplicate the changes, but the full transfer creates a complete copy of the source data. Both full and incremental transfers use the same DataSync job. We may set up the tasks to run on a schedule if the incremental transfers need to happen regularly, such as once a day or once a week.
In some situations, we need extra control over the files that are in AWS. We can transfer only a part of the files from the on-premises systems using DataSync’s functionality to establish exclude and include filters.
