If the default password for the Netgate pfSense device is not working, here are a few steps we can take to fix the issue. As part of our pfSense Support Services, Bobcares provides answers to all of your questions.

Fixing Netgate pfSense Default Password Not Working Issue

There may be several causes for the issue. Some of them include:

1. The default login method has changed in version 24.03 of pfSense Plus. During the initial login on a new setup, we’ll be asked to choose a special password.

2. Check that we typed the username and password correctly, including capitalization.

3. Other causes, such as keyboard issues or settings issues, may also exist in rare cases. However, these are uncommon situations.

In this case, we must reset the password to continue with the use.

Steps to Reset Default Password for Netgate pfSense Device

1. Unplug the pfSense device, then turn it back on.

2. During the boot process, look for a notification stating which key to press to access the boot menu. Press the key when requested.

3. In the boot menu, select Single-User Mode.

4. The system will boot into a text-based console. Log in with the root user account and root password (usually configured during the original pfSense setup).

5. Once we’ve signed in, type the following command and press Enter:
