Dkim DirectAdmin: Enabling and Management.

by | Aug 10, 2022

Let us take a closer look at Implementing DKIM on DirectAdmin. Our DirectAdmin support services at Bobcares can give you detailed notes on this and how it could help to identify spammers’ domains, reducing spam for everyone.

DKIM

It is a method of authentication that employs cryptographic techniques to counteract email spoofing. A DKIM-enabled mail server will construct a hash of the email contents it wishes to sign, encrypt it with its private key, and sign the outbound message with it.

Remote servers receiving email from a DKIM-enabled mail server will validate the signature by comparing it to DNS records added to the transmitting domain’s DNS zone. They accomplish this by collecting the public key from the domain’s DNS, using it to decrypt the encrypted hash, and then generating their own hash to compare to the original hash to see if they are equal (DKIM passes) or not (DKIM fails).

DirectAdmin provides the server administrator with numerous options for enabling DKIM to meet their needs. whether they want it enabled worldwide by default, per-domain, per-user, or just provide the option for users to enable it at their discretion.

Enable DKIM on DirectAdmin

  1. To enable Dkim DirectAdmin firstly, Log in using the user account to the DirectAdmin panel.

    dkim directadmin

  2. After that navigate to the E-mail Manager section and select E-mail Accounts. A list of all email accounts is visible on this page of the DirectAdmin panel for easy Dkim DirectAdmin enabling and management.
  3. In the upper-right corner, click the Enable DKIM button. DKIM is in the activation stage, and a success message will appear. Check to see whether there are two new DNS records for the domain.
  4. Finally, go to Account Manager and choose DNS Management. A list of DNS entries for the domain will be shown, with two new TXT Records included. One of them will be called x. domainkey.

Its value will be in the format as follows: “v=DKIM1; k=rsa; p=”. After the confirmation of the presence of the record, then rest assured as the system has indeed enabled DKIM. This is the final step in enabling the Dkim in DirectAdmin.

Disabling DKIM on a Per Domain Basis

Disabling the DKIM on DirectAdmin is as easy as enabling it. With the exception of editing the domain’s configuration file, which is located at /usr/local/directadmin/data/users/USERNAME/domains/DOMAIN.TLD.conf, this function is virtually the same as the per-user feature. For per-domain control, there is no need to configure or change user.conf file. If a domain uses both a remote DNS and a remote mail server, then disable the DKIM for that domain rather than all domains owned by the user. This is when the feature comes in helpful.

After making modifications to the DOMAIN, restart DirectAdmin. TLD.conf configuration file,

service directadmin restart

Conclusion

To conclude, the process of Dkim enabling Directadmin is done from the DirectAdmin panel. And it is a great tool for reducing spam.
