For instance, we can carry out a live migration on Virtual machines. This involves migrating the VM while it runs. Hence, there be zero downtime.

Another type of migration is migrating physical or virtual machines to LXD instances. Thai involves using the lxd-migrate tool to create an LXD instance based on the existing machine. Furthermore, the tool copies the provided disk, partition, or image to the LXD storage pool of the LXD server. Then it sets up an instance with that storage. This allows us to configure additional settings for the new instance.

LXD also permits us to migrate instances from LXC to LXD. This is done via the lxc-to-lxd tool. This tool takes a close at the LXC configuration and copies the data and configuration of the existing LXC containers into new LXD containers.
