Kerala Piravi

by | Nov 1, 2010

The Bobcares’ India facility is located at Kochi city in the state of Kerala, and today, we celebrated the 54th “Kerala Piravi“, the day the state of Kerala was formed.

The state of Kerala was formed on November 1st, 1956. It was formed as part of the “States Reorganisation Act” of 1956, where the boundaries of existing states were reorganized along linguistic lines. Kerala was created from the former state of Travancore-Cochin, the Malabar district of Madras State, and the Kasaragod taluk of Dakshina Kannada where Malayalam was the prominent language.

Kerala is wedged between the Lakshadweep sea and the Western Ghats. Offering tourists some of the most picturesque locations in the world, and earning it the title of “Gods Own Country“. Kerala is most famous for its expansive backwaters, Ayurvedic treatments and tropical greenery.

There are many myths concerning the origin of Kerala. One such myth is the creation of Kerala by Parasurama, a warrior sage. The Brahminical myth proclaims that Parasurama, an avatar of Mahavishnu, threw his battle axe into the sea. As a result, the land of Kerala arose and was reclaimed from the waters.
