Since Plesk servers with only active FTP connections do not allow to connect to the server to the server via FTP. We often get requests from our customers to enable Passive FTP.

Here at Bobcares, we handle such requests as a part of our Server Management Services for our customers. Today we will see how our Support Engineers do this for our customers.

How to enable Passive FTP Mode on a Plesk Google Cloud Instance

Following are the steps to configure passive FTP:

• Firstly we have to create a firewall rule. To do this we have to ensure the following settings:
• Name: We must give the firewall rule a recognizable name to identify it apart from others.
• Priority: We can keep the default value 1000.
• Direction of traffic and Action on match: Here we can select the Ingress radio button and the Allow checkbox.
• Targets: Google Cloud allows us to add firewall rules to all or selected instances.
•  To apply the firewall rule to all instances in the network, we can select All instances in the network under Targets.
•  To apply the firewall rule to particular instances, we can use assign targetTags to those instances. Then, we must select Specified target tags under Targets and specify the tags under Target tags.
• Source filter: We can keep the default IP ranges option.
• Source IP ranges: Here we need to specify 0.0.0.0/0 to allow all ranges.
• Protocols and ports: We can keep the default “Specified protocols and ports” option and specify the following port range in the box below:

     tcp:49152-65535

2. After providing proper values for the aspects mentioned above we can click Create.

The firewall rule gets created and we will be able to see it in the Firewall rules list.
Now we can use the passive FTP mode on the Google Cloud instance.
