Plesk Generate CSR: How to?

by | Aug 24, 2022

Let us take a closer look at the Plesk to generate CSR. At Bobcares with the assistance of our Plesk Hosting support, we can give you a detailed note on how to generate CSR with Plesk.

Generate CSR Via Plesk GUI :

Follow the steps given below to use the Plesk GUI to generate the CSR:

  1. To begin, sign in to Plesk and navigate to Domains > abcd.com > SSL/TLS Certificates > Manage as shown in the image given below:plesk generate csr
  2. Click the Add SSL/TLS Certificate button. After that enter the following certificate parameters as the initial step for letting the Plesk generate CSR:
    • Certificate name: This will assist us in locating this certificate in the repository.
    • Bits. Select the SSL certificate’s encryption level. Plesk Onyx supports 2048, 3072, and 4096 bits.
    • Country, State or province, location (city), organization name (company). The values we enter should not be longer than 64 symbols.
    • The domain name for purchasing an SSL certificate. This domain name should be properly qualified. For instance, abcd.com.
    • Email: The email address of the website administrator. Make sure that all of the information is exact and accurate, to generate the private key.
  3. Click Request: Plesk will create the private key and certificate signing request (CSR) and store them in the certificates repository (Domains > abcd.com > SSL/TLS Certificates). This process lets Plesk generate CSR.
  4.  After generating the CSR, send it to the chosen Certificate Authority to acquire a certificate from them. Click the name of the certificate we require in the Domains > example.com > SSL/TLS Certificates list.
  5. Locate the CSR section on the page and copy the text beginning with the line ——- to the clipboard. BEGIN REQUEST FOR CERTIFICATE——- and concludes with the phrase ——-FINAL CERTIFICATE REQUEST——.
  6. When acquiring the certificate, provide the CSR to the Certification Authority. The specific procedure varies by Certificate Authority, therefore contact the Certificate Authority for help. After we complete the transaction, we will be provided the certificate in the form of a *.crt file, a *.pem file, or text.

Via command line :

To perform the Plesk generate CSR use SSH to connect to the server. Execute this command:

openssl req -new -newkey rsa:2048 -nodes -keyout server.key -out server.csr

where “server” is the name of the server. This will initiate the creation of two files: the private key file used to decrypt the SSL Certificate and the certificate signing request (CSR) file used to apply for the SSL Certificate.

Enter the fully qualified domain name for the site to be secured when requested for a common name (domain name). When creating an Nginx CSR for a Wildcard SSL Certificate, the common name should begin with an asterisk (for example, *.abcd.com). Following that, further information, such as organizational information, begins with geographic information is necessary. There may already be a default information set. Then a .csr file will be generated. The generated .key file should be saved (backed up) because it will be needed later when installing the SSL certificate on the website.
