Most often, reinstalling Solusvm OpenVZ container fails. A possible solution here is to reset the root password via the SolusVM web interface.
As part of our Server Management Services, we assist our customers with several SousVM queries.
Today, let us see how our Support Engineers take care of this query.
Reinstalling Solusvm OpenVZ container fails
When we attempt to reinstall OpenVZ 7 container, in /usr/local/solusvm/log/ovz7.log it fails with the following error:
tail -fn0 /usr/local/solusvm/log/ovz7.log
ERRO[2021-06-29 08:34:53]/home/build/SOURCE/Go-Core/src/ovz7/vendor/github.com/sirupsen/logrus/logger.go:192 github.com/sirupsen/logrus.(*Logger).Log() rootpassword is not provided
The most common cause will be an encrypted root password for the container with the old encryption key which we cannot decrypt properly.
In order to fix this issue, our Support Techs recommend resetting the root password for the container.
- From the SolusVM admin area
Initially, we log into the SolusVM web interface as an admin user.
Then we browse to a container management page, Dashboard > Virtual Servers > container_id.
Eventually, we change the password using the corresponding feature available via the Root Password icon.
- From SolusVM client area
First, we log into the SolusVM web interface as a client.
After that, we click on the Manage button against a container name.
Later, on the management page, we select the Root/Admin Password tab and set a new password.
