xs_open No such file or directory on DomU | Resolved
Recently, one of our customers ran into the following error when running xenstore-read /tool/hostname on DomU:
xenstore-read: xs_open: No such file or directory on DomU
In this scenario, our customer had Xen Hypervisor version 3.1 installed on an RHEL machine, with two CentOS VMs on Dom0. The error popped up when they attempted to write some information in Dom0.
Fortunately, our experts have a solution up their sleeve for this specific error.
In fact, the command store information about configurations and status. Additionally, this is shared between the two domains.
Hence, when we use xenstore-write on Dom0, it will be read using xenstore-read on DomU. However, this will occur only if they share the file system. In order for this to happen, we have to mount xenfs on DomU.
Let’s take a look at how we can get this done:
- We have to run the following command on DomU:
# vi /etc/fstab
- Then, we have to add this line:
xenfs /proc/xen xenfs defaults 0 0
- After that, we have to create a mount point by reloading the fstab as seen here:
# mount -a
- Finally, we will be able to use xenstore-read on DomU as seen below:
# xenstore-read /tool/hostname
