Let’s take a closer look at Installing Spamassassin on Plesk.

Install Spamassassin Plesk

When emails are sent to mailboxes that are hosted on the Plesk server, the SpamAssassin spam filter recognizes spam messages among them. Here, our Support team helps us to install the Spamassassin on Plesk with these simple steps:

From Plesk Interface

  1. Firstly, log in to Plesk.
  2. Now go to Tools & Settings > Updates > Add/Remove components > Mail hosting.
  3. Select the SpamAssassin component. Then click the Continue button.
  4. The VPS will immediately download and install SpamAssassin. After installing SpamAssassin, click on the Finish button.

We can customize a number of SpamAssassin settings in Plesk to achieve the desired level of spam protection, including:

  • Spam filter sensitivity: SpamAssassin runs a variety of tests on the body and subject line of each message to determine whether it is spam. Each message is given a certain number of points as a result. The likelihood that a message is spam increases with the value.
  • Spam marks: We can only set the server-level spam filter to automatically delete spam on a per-mailbox basis; we cannot set the server-wide spam filter to do so. Consequently, we can decide to only mark messages as spam for the server-wide policy.
  • Maximum size of messages to check: The load on the server can be significantly increased by analysing a large volume of emails. We can control the spam filter’s test message’s maximum size to prevent this.
  • Number of SpamAssassin processes: Specifying the maximum number of SpamAssassin processes that can run simultaneously on the server is another way to reduce the server load caused by SpamAssassin.

From SSH/RDP server access

If we need to install From SSH/RDP server access, then follow the below steps:

  1. Use SSH or RDP to connect to the server.
  2. Run the command to install SpamAssassin:

    # plesk installer --select-release-current --install-component spamassassin

  3. Set up SpamAssassin.

Obtain a Plesk server login. Select Tools and Settings in the left pane. Click on Spam Filter under the View tab Mail to access the settings for the spam filter. Mark the checkbox for the all the list under General settings. Keep the field blank for “Add the following text to the beginning of subject of each message recognized as spam”.

  4. Finally click on OK.
