Let’s examine Enabling TLS 1.2 on Plesk in more detail. As part of our Plesk Hosting Support Services, Bobcares provides answers to all of your questions.
Enabling TLS 1.2 Plesk: A step-by-step method
Plesk is a web hosting and server data center automation software. It is developed for Linux and Windows-based retail hosting service providers. Plesk’s licensing options are as follows:
- Plesk Web Admin Edition allows us to manage up to ten domains. It is for basic website care. No other tools and features are needed.
- Plesk Web Pro Edition allows us to manage up to 30 domains. It includes Plesk WordPress Toolkit with full features.
- Plesk Web Host Edition supports an unlimited number of domains. The administrator can add reseller accounts.
TLS provides communications security over a network. We must use the latest TLS versions on the Plesk VPS. This is due to security reasons. And these days, SSL was widely replaced by TLS.
Enabling TLS 1.2 through Dashboard
- Firstly, log in to the Plesk account.
- Now go to Tools & Settings >> Scheduled Tasks.
- Then click the ‘Add Task’ option at the top left.
- Select ‘Run a command’. Then enter the below code in the textbox near to ‘Command’ option. Click ‘Run Now.’
/usr/local/psa/bin/server_pref -u -ssl-protocols 'TLSv1.1 TLSv1.2'
- Finally, we will see a message confirming TLS completion.
Enabling TLS 1.2 through CLI
- We can use the command line or the VPS console to connect to the VPS.
- Now we can easily disable TLS1.0. And specify which versions we want to use (server-wide command):
plesk bin server_pref -u -ssl-protocols 'TLSv1.1 TLSv1.2'
- Finally, we must set Apache to use the TLS 1.2 cipher list. We can use the -ssl-ciphers option to enable specific ciphers. We can also select the ciphers which we need.
plesk bin server_pref -u -ssl-ciphers 'ECDHE-ECDSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384:ECDHE-RSA-AES256-GCM-SHA384:ECDHE-ECDSA-CHACHA20-POLY1305:ECDHE-RSA-CHACHA20-POLY1305:ECDHE-ECDSA-AES128-GCM-SHA256:ECDHE-RSA-AES128-GCM-SHA256:ECDHE-ECDSA-AES256-SHA384:ECDHE-RSA-AES256-SHA384:ECDHE-ECDSA-AES128-SHA256:ECDHE-RSA-AES128-SHA256'
These steps enable TLS 1.2. And it disables TLS 1.0.
